Hi,

A friend is after a new PC, and has asked me for some
pointers. Its been a
while since I bought a pc, and I don't really want to go the
self build
route as in my experience there can be niggles getting
everything talking
together well, and said friend is looking for a hassle free
solution.

I'm assuming that a few things haven't changed - its
important to get a good
balanced system, with CPU, motherboard and memory all
matching together, and
friend already has a licencesed copy of XP so I'm leaning
towards suggesting
they just get a base unit, and a nice mouse/keyboard/monitor
seperately...

However, It's been so long since I was in the market, I
don't even know
which magazines and websites are a good starting point for
reviews, and I
was hoping for pointers and recomendations of good places to
start the
research ( ie names of magazines or urls.. ).

Any chance of any pointers?

PC Pro is usually pretty good. I've bought various
components and one PC
based on their reviews, and I've been happy with all of
them. I've found
it a good read, just to catch up with the state of the art.
