I don't understand HTML codes. Could someone help me

I THOUGHT I gt the HTML code right for my new template. But
then I keep
getting the same message over and over saying that it doesnt
work. I looked at
the FAQ's but that STILL didn't make sense. Please explain
like you are
talking to an idiot. Because, well frankly, I am. Here's the

interested, I did
find a way to display the most recent post from one label in
the sidebar. The

message keeps coming
up. Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-
formed. Please make
sure all XML elements are closed properly. XML error

Changing colors in my layout - 1 new

I had lesser but similar problems long ago with the Fonts
and Colors not
responding, but after a while it just fixed itself. The
fonts and colors were
changing, but couldn't be seen until I saved them and viewed
the actual blog.
It may be a glitch on your server going on that would
require Blogger's help,

Customized template messes up page elements customization

So I used the "Script" template, but wanted mine
wider than the default. So I
did just that, I widened it though customizing the template.
Only problem is
that in my Templates settings under "Page
Elements", the representation of the
blog on that page is set to be viewed only to a certain
width. Now that mine's
