None of your page rank or traffic tranfers to your own
domain.
If your 80 years old I see your point. But even if your in
your 50's
and you intend on blogging till your 80, then you will
produce more
value with your own domain in 30 years by starting from
scratch.
Thats my opinion and it's purely theoretical. I just know
that every
interview I have read with professional bloggers they have
said that
their single biggest mistake was not setting up their own
domain
sooner.
Its the same economic principals as owning a home - its
always better
to buy than rent. Long term vaue is key. However, I myself
am I
renter because I hate dealing with owning a home. It all
comes down
to what your comfortable with.
For instance, instead of setting up my own social network
for my blog
on my own domain I use ning.com and link to it from my
domain. I just
don't have the time to deal with administerting and
customising an
open source social network like phpizabi on my own domain.
You may
also not have the inclincation or time to deal with setting
up
wordpress yourself. Thats why I recommended godaddy because
they do a
great job with autoinstall of wordpress.
Anway, best of luck with your blog and congrats on the good
pageranks
so far.
