Thread: Need help in setting up my "blog"

Need help in setting up my "blog"
country flaguser name

Ok...so I want to set up my blog site

Originally I was going to just join a site like Wordpress or
Blogger,
but I found that either they were to complicated to work
with, and/or
they didn't offer me the features I wanted, so I just
decided I would
simply make my own using an HTML editor like Front Page

But the one thing I can't find is how to allow people to
"join" as a
member to my site, so that they can (also) leave comments
much like
one would on MySpace

The reason I want to allow people to "join" my
blog site, is so I can
at least monitor the comments

Now the only thing I could find was eithe software like:

 http://www.
the-commentators.com/Demo.html

http://www.dmxready.com/productdetai
ls.asp?mid=5&incid=11&ItemID=129

http://ww
w.gentlesource.com/comment-script/

which does not allow for HTML embedded comments, and/or cost
two
hundred bucks.... or is is something I have to configure a
server
for...which I don't know how to do (PHP, SQL)

Does anyone know of a simple script or an application that
will allow
users to join a website (username, email, password, maybe
upload an
avatar or picture) ?

And as well, allow comments to be made to any particular
blog that I
post/upload to my website (with HTML as well) ??

Thanks in advance

What features do you find lacking? You are right in that
there are
some deficiencies but there are also hacks to do certain
things not
offerred by Blogger. It makes life easier. Front Page is not
meant for
setting up blogs.

"Blogger, but I found that either they were to
complicated to work
with, "

Blogger is one of the easiest blogging platform. Some says
Wordpress
have better features but I found the free version of
Wordpress very
limiting and the free Blogger not only easier, but once you
know what
to do (which in my opinon is not difficult, and even if
difficult,
help is available), but you can do a lot of things with it,
unlike the
free version of Wordpress.

For those just starting with Blogger, I would refer them to

Not to be rude but your going about it all wrong and your
blog will
never get anywhere becuase you need basic built in software
link ping,
trackback and the tons of other plugins that make a
successfull blog.
Here is what you do...

1. Find a cool, short domain that sounds fun.
2. Sign up with godaddy for monthly hosting.
3. Use their automatic Wordpress install

OK we are wrong. Now let's see the result:

Forgot the domain registration fee. Plus the moment his miss
renewing
or default on paying for hosting fees, his blog is gone. No
more.

ordummies.blogspot.com PageRank 6. Pays nothing "

This sounds like I gets nothing out of the blog. I get a
check from
Google every month. Now they allow me to withdraw via
Western Union.
Just got the money this morning. Helps to supplement my
pension to put
my son (used to be 2 sons) through college. See
http://generating-r
evenue-from-your-site.blogspot.com/2007/03/how-do-i-earn-fro
m-adsense.html

Plus I get other small sources of income. See

nue-from-your-site.blogspot.com/2007/06/earn-with-text-link-

t-link-ads-part-2.html
http://adsense-alert.blogspot.com/2
007/07/earn-with-text-link-ads-part-3.html

Plus bloggers contact me via my blog for help, most through
http://blogger-tr
icks.blogspot.com/
sometimes asking me to do it for them when they can't manage
it. I got
one paid job from Argentina. Someone very kindly donated
twice to me
for helping him, once with a sum which I said was too much
but he said
I shouldn't be working for free.

Still not satisfied with how I am trying to communicate my
message.
What I am trying to say is I don't need to pay anything,
including
using blogspot.com. For reasons, see
http://bloggerfordummies.blogspo
t.com/2007/10/why-i-never-use-custom-domain.html
Plus I use all free tools including
http://blogger-tricks.blogspot.c
om/2006/10/using-irfanview-photo-editor-for.html
in conjunction with Paint that comes with Windows.

I put 2 sons through college even though I am retired

You can never sell your blogger blog - its against TOS. I
can sell my
domain blog - peoples' domain blogs in the past have sold
for
MILLIONS.

Your blogspot traffic and pagerank is Googles - not yours.

Furthermore, with a blogger blog you and your readers are
literally an
asset on Google's balance sheet. You don't own your blog
and you
can't sell it.

Sure, you get free rent, but its at the cost of building
your own
asset. You are just another part of Google's user generated
content
business plan.

Plus, Godaddy and domain reg is like $6 a month. What kind
of price
is that to pay for owning an asset that could be worth more
than your
house in 10 years?

SearchEngineWatch sold for like $8 mil. Gawker, Engadet,
Johnchow all
have valuations in the millions. Your blogger blog is worth
$0
because Google owns it.
