Hi,

I'm writing review of OpenSource for business. The goal
is to simplify and
stimulate adoption. Could you review what I have for Blojsom
(still working on
it) and maybe provide some input?
http://www.serviza.com/SoftwareIsFree-ForBusiness.pdf.

Thanks,

"Difficult to install"? If you're choosing a
Java weblog package,
then you better have some understanding of deploying Java
web
applications. All things being equal, one could say that
installing
any of the PHP or Perl packages could be difficult too, if
unfamiliar
with, say, CPAN (damn, what quagmire that is if you're not
a Perl
kool-aid drinker).

blojsom, IMHO, is by-far the easiest of many blogging
packages to
install.

The document otherwise is very thorough. However, it might
be too
detailed if intended as an introduction to F/LOSS for
executives.

Regards,
Tim

Thanks Timothy,

I installed and Blojsom looks good. Easy, complete, and
looks attractive. I
updated the next document draft. Not sure what was my
problem before.

Tim

I think installation is compounded by infrastructure and
there should be a
distinction made between the two. Most, if not all hosting
providers today
provide the necessary infrastructure for using most LAMP
software. That's
not the case with Java software. So, getting Java software
up and running,
say web applications, require getting more infrastructure
setup before you
even get to installation of the software itself.

That being said, I did try and make blojsom easy to install.
In blojsom 2.x,
the Quickstart bundle provided a drop-in package to get up
and running with
blojsom that typically required no modification. In blojsom
3.x, the
Quickstart bundle still exists, however, due to the use of a
database, you
need to change database configuration settings. However,
this is no
different from other software packages such as Wordpress
where you might
still have to download the software, upload it to your
server, unpack the
archive, and change the database configuration settings.

If there are aspects of blojsom installation that are
difficult, the
installation instructions are easily modified to clarify or
add new steps.
