Is there a fix for the mail bug in 2.29?

I'm not catching as much of the spammy comments as I used
to because I'm 
not notified anymore when comments or tracbacks occur due to
the mailing 
bug in 2.29. Is there a fix to that bug that's been checked
in?

Also, is there a way to automatically turn off commenting
and trackbacks 
on postings past a certain age?
