Well the 1.34.0 instructions are excellent.  I now have a much better understanding of the process, and how the libraries are used.  However, it appears that my problem is specifically with bjam.  Typing in the compilation instructions (since I specifically need thread and date_time fully working) results in an “Application Error̶1; popup from Windows, and the program immediately terminates with no displayed output.

Just to make sure I’m doing this properly:

  1. I’m currently running the pre-built bjam.exe file from boost-jam-3.1.13-1-ntx86.zip.  Since I’m running Windows XP, I’m assuming this is the correct executable.
  2. I placed the .exe in my root boost directory (in this case, C:Boostboost_1_34_0. *This step may be wrong̷0; the instructions said to run it from this directory, so I assumed the .exe had to be in this directory as well.
  3. The exact line I typed to invoke bjam was: bjam --build-dir=C:Boostboost_1_34_0 --toolset=msvc stage

I also obtained temporary administrative rights to make sure that it wasn’;t a permissions problem, but that did not solve the issue either.  Any help you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

Mike,

could you please try building bjam yourself according to the
instructions at
http://www.boost.org/regression
-logs/cs-win32_metacomm/doc/html/jam/building.html
and tell us if it works any better for you? That will give
us a good
idea of whether the bjam executable you downloaded is
corrupted or not.

Thanks.

And I just posted a 3.1.14 release of bjam (the version in
the 1.34.0
release). So you might try those prebuilts.
