Tested with VC-8 express edition installed in the default
location: and it 
does do the right thing WRT naming.  Explicitly specifiying
the toolset 
version seems to do the right thing as well (tested with
vc-7.1 and vc-7.0).

OK... I've done equivalent testing with msvc-8.0, msvc-7.1,
forcing a 
fake msvc-9.2, and compared it to what gcc.jam does. And I
checked the 
change into HEAD. So now I'm waiting for Thomas to show up
so I can ask 
him permission to check it into RC.
