as the default field?

Yes.

After a little more testing we've learned:

1) That it might have to do with the text, which might
explain why he
doesn't experience this every time. We added paragraphs one
by one until
we encountered the problem. The suspect text seems to be:

<strong><a
href="http://www.conservation.org/xp/CIWEB/programs/
climatechange/carbon
calculator.xml" target="new">Conservation
International</a></strong>

The D.C.-based nonprofit started offering offsets to
companies in 2001
and to individuals just last month. So far, 20 companies
have
participated, committing to several 25- to 30-year projects
that will,
the group says, offset 16 million tons of carbon.

2) In addition to not being to replicate this problem on
Windows, the
user has switched to a Mac running OS 10.4.7 and Firefox
1.5.04
(optimized version for Power PC called Deer Park) and has
NOT
encountered the problem.

Very weird.

Try leaving out "target="new""? That
shouldn't matter…

Best,
