Actually, it makes me wonder if there's a way to get a sense
of where
Bricolage developers / users are in the world? E.g., http://
www.frappr.com/firefoxusers ... or even just listing our
City,
State / Province, Country in the wiki somewhere?
Phillip.

Sure. Feel free to start a map on Frapper or Platial…

/me suggests a wiki -- it's simple and editable, and
viewable with lynx/w3m ;)

Sure. Though the cool thing about Platial's MapKit is that
we can
embed it on the Bricolage site if we want:
http://www.platial
.com/mapkit/more

David

Uh, where's that? I know these folks (we shared an office
with them
till recently), so I can always bug them directly, but I'm
pretty
sure it just generates some JavaScript to cut and paste.
Best,
David

The platial home and some other pages has some sort of video
that
requires a plugin:
"/static/howtovids/MapKitDemo.mov"

I played with it a bit and found it a bit slow / cumbersome
to use.
However, if you'd like to add one to the Bricolage site, I'd
certainly add my "place."
On my end, I'll commit to cleaning up the user list in the
wiki --
I'm thinking a sortable table with Name, Company /
Organization,
City, Country, E-mail -- as long as Nate helps me with it.
In fact,
I'm wondering if Nate has any thoughts on taking the current
user
list and formatting it as a table?
Knowing who and where users and developers are will
certainly help to
build some community. I'm also wondering if we could create
some
incentives around the creation of new articles on the
Bricolage site?
The last "articles" published are from the 2004 -
5 time frame.
David: If we get 'em written, you're open to posting them on
www.bricolage.cc
Phillip.

It was just a suggestion. I don't really have the bandwidth
to do it
at the moment.

Nice.

Yes, of course. Marshall Roch, Dawn Buie, and Bret Dawson
can also
post stories to the site.

Speaking of which, Phillip and Dawn and I have all chatted
on-and-off
for a few months about putting together some more how-tos,
complete with
a few sets of off-the-shelf templates (How to set up
Bricolage to run a
news website, how to set up Bricolage to run a large
organization's
public website how to set up Bricolage to output content in
formats such
as PDF, and so on.)
The idea is basically to complement the existing
bricolage.cc templates,
so that newcomers could pick the model that most closely
resembles their
goal site, and then customize from there.
Obviously we haven't got too far with any of that, because
we're all
busy. But everybody's busy all the time, and that's not
likely to
change, so it's about time we made some time.
Assuming the idea has legs and people out there DO want to
see
step-by-step guides (with templates included) for setting up
particular
kinds of sites, what's a good site-type to start with? A
news
publication? Corporate website? Something else?
Also: I'm late to chime in here, but let me add my voice to
the chorus.
David, we've been lucky to have you. Thanks for all your
time and effort
and help. I'm eager to start repaying your favours.
All the best,
Bret
