can the file extension of a page be changed in a template?

As part of a story template, I'm burning html files, but
would also like
to burn a couple of auxiliary files with a different file
extension,
e.g. a server side include file with an .ssi extension.
Does anyone
know if it's possible to publish stories with alternate /
different file
extensions or does the output channel configuration pretty
much lock
down the extension?

If not, would an acceptable hack be to specify no extension
in my output
channel, select "use slug for filename", and then
include the extension
in the slug which could possible allow me to also include
alternative
file extensions via $burner->set_page_extensions?  Or
should I create
another output channel with .ssi as the extension and
configure that
channel to use the templates from my original output
channel?

I would use a media file, but the contents of the ssi need
to change
based on story data. I suppose I could create and publish a
media file
on the fly within the template, but this seems like overkill
for what I
want to do.

Thanks.

I believe this is the solution you want.

Hi David. Without knowing the specifics of your situation,
I'd say this
sounds like exactly the sort of thing that calls for an
extra output
channel. The resulting setup is less hacky and makes it
easier to keep
track of things.

Plus, output channels = fun.

Cheers,

Bret
