Beware IE 7 quirks mode with autohandler comment before doctype declaration

Just ran into a crazy IE 7 "bug" today that
tormented me for an hour.
In short, and for a number of different reasons, I comment
my
templates like crazy. And, thus, most of the HTML pages that

Bricolage produces have a <!-- start /autohandler.mc
--> at the very
top.

In IE 7, It turns out that if you have a comment preceding
you
DOCTYPE declaration it will throw the browser into
"quirks" mode.
Which, if you're not expecting it, can make things appear
quite out
of whack!   It
appears there are a number of similar "if you have
X" right at the top of your file, it will put the
browser in mode Y"
issues for IE 7. Anyhoo... just thought I'd throw that
nugget out there.

Yes, that's been around since ie6, and it's actually a
feature For
example, it let's you tip ie6 into quirks mode so old pages
built with
the ie6 box model work properly.

Used to be a problem for people who liked to put an
<?XML...>
declaration in the front of their xhtml pages.
