Hi All,

I missed the deadline for Bricolage to be a project in the
Google Summer
of Code, but at the recommendation of Darren Duncan, I added
Bricolage as
a subproject of the Perl Foundation. You can find all the
details here:

  http://www.perlfoundation.org/perl5/index.cgi?gsoc2008

Here's a list of project ideas:

  http://www.perlfoundation.org/perl5/ind
ex.cgi?gsoc2008_projects#bricolage

If you have ideas, please add them!

If you'd like to be a mentor, please add yourself here:

  http://www.perlfoundation.org/perl5/index.cgi?gsoc
2008_mentors

But even if none of these things apply to you, if you know
any students
who might like to hack on Bricolage, please have them submit
a project
proposal! Details on proposal submission are here:

  http://www.perlfoundation.org/perl5/index.

I'm looking at *you* folks at colleges and universities!
Denison, U.Va,
Umich, Adams State, you're on! The deadline for student
applications to
Google is March 31 5:00 PM PDT / 00:00 UTC April 1, 2008.

Thanks,

David

It will definitely need testing....
(Like I mentioned before (last year?), I think it will
need several releases before it becomes stable.
(Along with the usual catch-22 where nobody will use it
until
it is stable.))
Sorry, I didn't get very far with it yesterday.

If you want to hack on it, it's the dev_apache2 branch.
I think this will work:
svn co https://svn.bricolage.cc/bricolage/branches/dev_apache2
See also perldoc lib/Bric/Hacker.pod .
Beware, it might not be in a very useable state at the
moment.

Had some discussion with students regarding the ideas and
hopefully
we should receive one or two applications.
One question which has stuck me, is regarding full text
support.
Which versions of postgresql we are supporting currently ?
Full text
search requires installing a utility for postgresql version
less than
8.3 but full text search is integrated in 8.3 . This might
affect the
full text search capabilities...

One idea: port it to mod_perl 2

some linux distributions like gentoo have dropped apache 1.3
from
their package tree. it could be very helpful

I think that we should just support 8.3 to start with. The
full text
search function will simply be disabled for older versions
of
PostgreSQL. That's the simplest thing to do.

Best,

David
