Hi all,

I've upgraded the Bricolage VM to install the latest
security patches
for Ubuntu 7.04 and also up to version 1.10.4 of bricolage.

http://www.digitalcraftsmen.ne
t/bricvm/VM-bricolage-1.10.4-dhcp-ubuntu-7.04.tar.gz

We're happy to host it if Cameron Miller (original creator
according to
http://www.bricolage.cc/news/announce/2007/10/01/vmware/
 ) can't be found.

regards,

Paul

You go right ahead Paul. I'll stick a copy on our FTP as
well. The
more "mirrors" the better. My current test vm is
running Gutsy and
1.10.4. I had not upgraded the public vm yet, I was holding
out for the
Hardy server edition and there is also the JeOS Ubuntu
server version to
look at. At ASC we are currently undergoing a comparison
between VM
architectures, vmware and xen primarily, to decide how to
run our shop
for the next few years so a xen image may also be
forthcoming.

Does xen run on OS X?

I assume you're talking about running OS X as Dom0 -- the
answer is "no" -- your choice is NetBSD, Linux, or
Solaris.

And (from what I'm reading), you'll be very hardpressed to
get OS X running as a client as well, because Apple wants to
$ell you it's hardware, not let one run on a commodity
box...

The Apple _hardware_ is supposed to make a good hardware
platform, though (ie: if you wanted a Mac Mini to host the
software).

No. Xen is currently implemented as a modified Linux
kernel. There are
reports of OS X running on Xen but that would simply kill
all of your
graphics. There were some reports of Apple looking at
running a Xen
kernel instead of Mach for OS X in the past, I don't know
the current
state of that.

For OS X, Qemu is said to do a pretty good job for the Intel
based Mac's
if somebody doesn't want to pay for Virtual PC. I believe
Xen uses qemu
image files.

Yes, I'm just wondering if I should use xen instead of
vmware or
parallels to run Windows on my Mac.

Best,

David

Bare metal? I've been wanting to put bootcamp through its
paces, but I
haven't had a chance yet.

No, I don't want to reboot just to do browser testing, which
is pretty
much the *only* use I have for Windows.

Best,

David

I've had some luck on OS X Leopard with IE4OSX:
http://www.kronenb
erg.org/ies4osx/

It's just a Darwine wrapper but handles the IE installation
for you too.
