What sort of content are you serving? Will it only be web
traffic, or
files as well?

Akamai has a way of caching segments of your pages which you
declare
with tags. For all other content it will pass the request
to your page,
then slap together your response and the cached segments,
and return to
the user. I believe this is called ESI if I remember
correctly.
Utilizing ESI your domain must point to Akamai and Akamai
requests from
you via a new domain such as origin.mysite.com.

In my experience caching has worked well for some cases,
personalized
content not being one of them. Caching personalized content
can
exponentially grow your memory demands. I would recommend
output
caching controls when possible, and object caching as a
second option,
both for non-personalized content (unless you have a large
distributed
caching layer). Control Output caching has shown to
outperform object
caching in our implementations, although there is place for
both
methods.

Subject: [DOTNET-WEB] Anyone use content distribution
networks?

I'm faced with handling some very large peak traffic on a
site and I'm
looking into using some CDNs such as Akamai to provide the
extra
bandwidth and responsiveness. I haven't found a lot online
about dealing
with the convergence of caching and ssl/aspx pages. My aspx
pages nearly
all have some sort of personalization and dynamic content on
them. Can
someone point me in the right direction? I have some ideas,
but would
love to hear from someone who's been here before.

Thanks,

Brian
