How do the advantages and disadvantages compare of replacing
some standard user controls (.NET 1.1) with self made custom
controls (.NET 1.1) in perspective of continuity (impact
analysis, and migrating to .NET 2+)?
The company I'm working for uses standard user controls
(ASP.NET, .NET 1.1). Due to usability issues I am toying
around with the thought of replacing them with custom
controls (Also ASP.NET, .NET 1.1). All kind of logic
(validation stuff, etc) can be dealt with inside the custom
control.
This will be less of a burden for programmers, usability
people, testers and promotes a consistent appearance and
behaviour of controls. Less annoying stuff for programmers
while making everybody happy, or not? It seem te depend on
such change has affect to the existing code and future
migration from .NET 1.1 to .NET 2+.
What should be the considerations, what should be the
questions to ask?
