building new system: are hardware there hardware compat. problems?

Hi,
I'm looking to build a home NAS server. I am planning on
using opensolaris, mostly because I want to use ZFS. I'll
be buying 2 Hitachi 1TB SATAII disks, a new motherboard, and
a new processor. Since this is NAS, I plan on buying a
motherboard with onboard video. Also, I want giga ethernet.

  - Are there chipsets that do not work or work well?
      - for giga?
      - for video? The boards I'm looking at usually have
intel or nvidia
  - I want the system to be lower power. Is AMD or Intel
better?
  - Is it ok to go with a lower end CPU? I was planning on
getting about the cheapest available.
  - I would like to automatically start up the server every
day around 4pm, and shut it down around midnight (to save
energy). Does anyone have motherboards that do this? I
really like this feature in my mac mini.

Are there issues I should know about? The specific
motherboards I am looking at are:
Intel BLKDG965WHMKR : Lan chipset is Intel 82566DC, video
is Intel GMA X3000
GIGABYTE GA-M68SM-S2 (AMD): Lan chipset Realtek 8211BL,
video is NVIDIA GeForce 7025
(both are available on newegg)

Are there other issues I should plan around? I currently
have an antec true380w power supply. This has been
sufficient in the past...

Anyone who has put together a system recently: what has
worked well and what do you wish you had done differently?

Thanks,
david

There are lots of discussions that run continually about
this topic. The latest is this:

It may give you some ideas of a potential win in the NAS
space using OpenSolaris.
