Just wanted to report here that the HP ProCurve 1800-8G
switch that I bought is highly recommended. Setting up
trunking/etc. was a breeze, this is an excellent network
product for the price. Nice set of features and easy to
administer. There doesn't appear to be a telnet interface,
but the web interface works fine with Safari; with the
exception of updating the device's firmware, that seems only
to work in Internet Expolrer (didn't try Firefox). So, with
this switch, a 2Gb aggregated interface on my OpenSolaris
CIFS Server, Cat6 cabling and a brand new iMac I get about
40MB/sec write speed. I know that theoretically Gigabit
ethernet should be capable of 125MB/sec, any suggestions on
where to look for performance bottlenecks?
