Individual will provide Oracle database administration for a variety of mission-critical custom and packaged software applications. Core responsibilities will include: Designing, implementing and monitoring database functionality to ensure stable environments Performing database administration and management activities in a safe, recoverable and professional manner that ensures the optimal operation of all database environments Scripting skills - SQL, PL/SQL scripting UNIX/WIN O/S and shell scripting (.ksh,.bash,.bat) Uphold enterprise policy guidelines and recommend new and improved guidelines to ensure compatibility and better service for end-users Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems/concerns associated with database server equipment (hardware and software) Identify potential service level problems before they occur and notify appropriate parties Test and evaluate new products as relevant Log support cases as necessary and effectively work with Oracle Corporation Maintain up-to-date plans for disaster recovery and fail over capabilities and test as required Perform capacity monitoring and short and long-term capacity planning in collaboration with development resources, system administrators and system architects Propose solutions, identify tools, and generate procedures to ensure an efficient, consistent repeatable environment Use and deploy RDBMS software, data management tools and utilities, data warehouse and replication tools Maintain security according to best practices and generate security solutions that balance auditor requirements with user requirements Participate in 24x7 on call rotation Candidate will possess: 8 + years supporting Oracle 8i/9i/10g databases in high availability Unix environments Demonstrated experience in disaster recovery planning and testing Thorough knowledge of Sun Solaris and/or HP UX platforms Understanding of systems development processes and business processes Proven analytic skills and strong judgment Excellent communication skills Ability to work effectively with team/others and share knowledge to ensure team success Ability to work through TARS with Oracle Corporation technical support Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning Demonstrated diagnostic skills Preferred Skills Oracle Application Server upto 10G
DBAs are responsible for the design and testing of database software environments, consulting with users to determine hardware and software functional specifications. Also responsible for design, documentation, testing, creation and modification of database software related to machine operating systems.
10 + YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING:
RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures the database environment is highly reliable, provides the required functionality, is efficient, and cost effective. Accountable for the creation of the logical and physical data models. Troubleshoots daily program problems to assist program users in accessing and manipulating computerized data. Analyzes and creates programs to streamline production jobs.
COMPETENCIES: Establish and maintain data bases for user testing purposes and production; consult with business analysts, data modelers and designers on procedures pertaining to new and existing files; provide input to the data models (functionality, efficiency and usability); responsible for the technical aspects of one or more databases including availability/reliability; assist in the definition of the database requirements; analyze existing databases and their interfaces looking for opportunities to improve their efficiency; and resolve technical problems.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree or equivalent training or work experience; understanding of customer's business operations and products produced; knowledge of systems applications delivery tools and techniques. Six to nine years of applications programming experience or equivalent; seven to nine years of experience in respective database area; experience in more than one database structure (hierarchical, network or relational); understands the pros and cons of each; experience with tools and utilities for platform; and understand the pros and cons of different designs with respect to storage, system performance and user flexibility.
