How to had carriage return in IPTC:Caption-abstract?

Via the API, you do it by adding a "n" in the
value string in your call to
SetNewValue().  But it seems you have tried this already. 
Be sure that
you are using double quotes.  What makes you think this
doesn't work?<br /><br />

I suspect it is working, but that either you aren't
extracting control characters
or your the control character is wrong for your display
device.  (I don't know
how you are looking at the output -- in a terminal? a text
editor?)<br /><br />
