I have a project I converted from vs.net 2003 to 2005 some
time ago.
I've been using .net 2 based controls in it for a while
with no
problems. Now I'm trying to add groups to a couple of
listview
controls. I can add junk data and a fake group and it shows
up fine in
the forms designer under visual studio. At runtime, the
groups do not
show up ever. Not the fake ones that are there at design
time nor the
ones that I am creating and adding dynamically at runtime.
Could this
problem be the result of the move from .net 1.1 to .net 2.0?
The
ShowGroups memeber is set to true and like I said, the
groups never
show up at any point durring runtime, not even the fake ones
that I
created just to see if it was my code that was going wrong.

J.P.,
I just tried mocking up your problem, and I'm not
seeming to have
the same issue. Do you have items in these groups? Also, did
you rename
the headers on the junk groups when you made them, and if
so, did you
then add junk items to those groups (after renaming as
"Group1", "Group
2", etc...) and give the items a Text property. One
thing that I've
noticed about the ListView is that it doesn't do anything
when its
groups or items are not "ready-for-render" (e.g.
no visible indicators,
text, etc...). Perhaps a bit more detail and we can delve
further. By
the way, what View are you looking at?

I do have items in the groups, I have changed the Header
fields to text like
"Test Group 1" and "Test Group 2". I
have added data to each group for the
test like "Test Data 1" and "Test Data
2". In the forms designer, all seems
well. At runtime, only the "Test Data 1" and
"Test Data 2" show up, not the
group headers they are supposed to be in. I am using
View.Detail, I've tried
with other views as well (Icon views, I'm aware groups
don't work with the
View.List option). Same behavior. It's strange, this is the
only project it
does not work in, but as I stated earlier, I originally
started it in vs.net
2003 and moved to 2005 and .net 2.0 later so I'm not sure
if that has
anything to do with it at all. I've checked the version of
System.Windows.Forms and it is using 2.0. Not sure what else
to look at.
