3) ZUBAIR'S TIP O' THE WEEK: Troubleshooting Exchange's
Intelligent Message Filter

QUESTION: I am experiencing some problems since I installed
Exchange Intelligent Message Filter (IMF). I don't see the
IMF performance counters in the System Monitor and the FTP
service doesn't work anymore. Are there any known issues
that I should be aware of?

ANSWER: Exchange Intelligent Message Filter is a great anti-
spam tool and works well. Best of all it's free. Here are
some tips that would help you configure the filter properly.

You can use this filter in conjunction with any third-party
anti-spam software.

The counters for Intelligent Message Filter only show up in
System Monitor after at least one message has been processed

by the Intelligent Message Filter. Simply send yourself a
message and you will notice the counters in the System
Monitor.

Sometimes you may notice Spam Confidence Level (SCL) value
of
-1. Messages from users that use authenticated clients, such

as Outlook or Outlook Web Access (OWA), receive an SCL
rating
of -1 so that their messages do not end up in junk e-mail
folder.

Also, you do not need to install Intelligent Message Filter
on all your Exchange servers. The Intelligent Message Filter

only needs to be installed on Exchange servers that directly

receive mail from the Internet (i.e. Internet-facing
servers).

Make sure that you restart MSExchangeIS service after you
install any application that uses the SCL infrastructure.
Otherwise, all the messages will end up in junk e-mail
folder, even though your threshold level is set to higher
than 0.

When you install Intelligent Message Filter it stops the
IIS Admin service and restarts SMTP, NNTP, POP3, IMAP
and the Routing Engine Service. You'll have to manually
start FTP and any other services that didn't get restarted.

*Limiting DHCP Admin Rights* (Microsoft -- Real World Forum)

Moondoggy writes:
"By default DHCP admin rights are granted to members
of the
local administrators group and those users that are placed
in the DHCP Administrators group. What we would like to do
is
deny the local Administrators group from being able to
administer DHCP. If someone knows how to do this, can you
please supply the necessary details?"

*NAT With 2 Domains and One NAT Pool* (CCIE Forum)

hudsonmbg writes:
"I have a router with two fast Ethernet ports and
using just
one serial interface. Those two ports are connected to two
different domains and definitely two different subnets. I
have just one pool of public IPs and I want to map these
subnets with Private IPs to the same pool.

My idea is creating two "ip nat inside"
interfaces and then
creating 2 ACLs with 2 "ip nat inside source list
..."
statements... Is this going to work, or there is another,
better option? Does Cisco IOS accept this wild idea?"
