2) ZUBAIR'S TIP O' THE WEEK: CHANGING WINDOWS XP/2003 SPLASH
SCREEN

QUESTION:
Is it possible to change Windows XP/2003 splash screen?

ANSWER:
Yes. You can replace Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
splash screen
with your own bitmap. The bitmap that you are going to use
must be a
16-color, 640x480, and be saved as a file called boot.bmp in
Windows
folder. Here's the step-by-step procedure:

1. Remove the read-only, hidden and system attributes from
the
boot.ini located in the root of drive C. (attrib boot.ini -r
-s -h)

2. Add the switches /bootlogo and /noguiboot to your
boot.ini file.
Here's a sample boot.ini:

 [boot loader]
 timeout=30
 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS
 [operating systems]
 multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP
 Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /bootlogo
/noguiboot

3. Save your boot.ini file and reboot your computer.

4. You should see your custom boot splash screen instead of
the
default Windows logo.

*Cisco 2500* (Cisco -- Real World forum)

packet writes:
"Since a 2503 and 2520 have only one Ethernet
interface, is it
possible using a back-to-back cable to use these routers to
connect
to the Internet with my cable connection? I would config NAT
outside
on e0 interface, NAT inside on s0 interface, have the 2520
and 2503
connected via a back-to-back cable. Behind the 2503, I would
have a
2950 switch where my PCs would connect. Just curious."

*VRF-BGP Convergence Issue* (Cisco -- Real World forum)

rjohnson writes:
"I am testing a scenario in a lab that requires
different VLANs to
have different routing tables. This is not an MPLS
implementation
and, due to carrier limitations, we cannot deploy an MPLS
network.
So here was the solution: use two separate VRF instances and
leak
routes between the two. We chose this solution because some
of the
sites have some not-so-hot routers. We are avoiding PBR. The
issue
I am having is everything works properly except that after a
switch
reload, the BGP takes five minutes to import routes from the
other
VRF. If I issue a clear IP BGP* the import/export takes
effect
immediately. Below is the simple config used:...."
