2) ZUBAIR'S TIP O' THE WEEK: CLEARING MAPPED CONNECTIONS
HISTORY IN
WINDOWS EXPLORER
QUESTION:
When I map a drive in Explorer, the folder drop-down box
shows a
history of previously mapped connections. How can I clear
the history?
ANSWER:
To clear the history, you'll need to modify the registry.
Here's
the procedure:
1. Start the registry editor "regedit.exe".
2. Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion
ExplorerMap Network Drive MRU.
3. Delete the letters in the right window. Also delete the
entry
MRUList. The MRUList contains the order in which the
entries
appear in the drop-down box in Explorer in reverse
order. For
example, the list "edcab" would show the entry
associated with
drive letter E at the top, then drive D, then drive C
and so on.
4. Close the registry editor.
You do not need to reboot or log off. The changes take
effect immediately.

*Pathchar Command Utilization* (Cisco -- Real World Forum)
hudsonmbg writes:
"I would like to know how to use the 'pathchar' command
and what
systems do support it. I am not a UNIX pro but I would just
like to
know the format of the command and what OSes support it.
Also, I am
looking for a tool which can tell me the exact bandwidth I
am getting
from the service provider. PRTG and MRTG and others just
tell me how
much is being utilized but not how much bandwidth I am
receiving. In
Africa, we are interested, most often, in quantity and
sometimes
not quality."

*Multicast Routing Misunderstanding* (CCIE Forum)
hudsonmbg writes:
"I have a little misunderstanding with configuring
auto-RPs with
multicasting. Do I need to define a default RP with the IP
PIM
RP-address command before issuing the IP PIM
send-RP-announce
command? And secondly, I don't clearly understand the role
of IP PIM
send-RP-discovery scope command. I have been reading through
multicasting and I find this area giving me some trouble. I
would
appreciate any help."

*Recommended Books for CCNA* (CCNA/CCNP Forum)

"I posted on the career subforum about achieving a
CCNA. I'm going to
be registering for classes this week for the fall '07
semester. All of
my classes are pre-reqs of each other so as of now I am only
taking
one class during the fall semester. I had thought about the
MCSE but I
am more interested in networking.
Basically, I was wondering if there was any summer reading I
should
pick up for a beginner with networks just so I can have a
step up
against other students in my class."
