2) ZUBAIR'S TIP O' THE WEEK: MISSING DRIVE LETTER FOR USB
DRIVES
QUESTION:
Why does my new external USB hard drive work fine in Windows
2000/XP
but not in Windows Server 2003? Even though the system
detects the
USB drive and installs the driver, why don't I see any drive
letters
in Explorer or My Computer?
ANSWER:
If your system is detecting and installing the driver, then
your USB
drive is not defective. Windows Server 2003 is installing
the drive
but is not assigning it a drive letter.
What you need to do is open Computer Management, go to Disk
Management
and assign your USB drive a new drive letter. Here's the
procedure:
1. Right-click your USB drive in Disk Management and select
Change
Drive Letter and Paths.
2. Click Add.
3. Assign the drive letter of your choice and click OK.
As soon as the drive letter is assigned, you'll see the
drive letter
show up in Windows Explorer and My Computer. There is no
need to
reboot your computer. Some users have experienced the exact
same
problem of missing USB drive letters in Windows XP, as well.
The
process of adding drive letters in Windows XP is identical
to the
process for Windows Server 2003 described above.

*IPv6 Interface Addressing* (CCNA/CCNP)
Suzanne writes:
"I am trying to configure router interfaces for IPv6
and I am failing
to understand what the eui-64 option behind an IPv6 is for.
Take,
for example, on one interface the instructor assigns an
address such
as IPv6 address 2001:CC1E:1::/64 eui-64 and another IPv6 add
2001:cc1e:1:2::2/127.
What's the difference? When do I assign one and when do I
assign
the other?"

*Injection of Default Routes Using EIGRP* (CCIE Forum)
hudsonmbg writes:
"I have come across two commands: default-information
originate and IP
eigrp summary-address 10 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 5
The first command is found under config-router# for the
EIGRP process.
Are these two commands different? To me, I don't see why I
won't
utilize the easier method: default-information originate. Is
there a
difference between the two command scripts?"

*2950 ACL* (Cisco -- Real World Forum)
net2ravi writes:
"In a Cisco document about configuring ACLs on Catalyst
2950 switch,
I read that on a given interface, only one type of
user-defined mask
is allowed but any number of system-defined masks can be
applied.
What is the difference between these two system-defined and
user-defined masks?"

*Gaining Experience* (CCNA/CCNP)
bwgray writes:
"For all of those who've been in networking a long
time, are there
other alternatives -- besides study and certification -- to
gain
real-world experience while doing that transition to
full-time
networking? I use a minimal of Cisco and networking where
I'm at, but
keep plugging away to learn more. I have over seven years in
IT now,
and would never want to transition for a lower paying
position; equal
would be fine. But I want to really build my networking
skills further
and was just wondering if anyone had some creative ways how
to do so."
