2) DULANEY ON CERTS
By Emmett Dulaney
CCVP GETS A FACELIFT
With all the changes and advances in IP telephony, Cisco
announced
that it's "enhancing" its Cisco Certified Voice
Professional
(CCVP) certification.
http://certcities.com/editorial/news/story.asp?E
ditorialsID=1326
This certification requires five exams beyond the Cisco
Certified
Network Associate (CCNA) and focuses on integrating IP
telephony
solutions into underlying network architectures, as well as
the
ability to implement, configure and troubleshoot. Those who
earn
the certification are expected to know PSTN, VoIP, signaling
protocols, voice gateways, gatekeepers and the Cisco Unified
Border Element (CUBE).
After completing the CCNA, those who want the CCVP must
take:
- Quality of Service (642-642)
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_ex
ams/642-642.html
- Cisco Voice over IP (642-436)
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_ex
ams/642-436.html
- Troubleshooting Cisco Unified Communications Systems
(642-426)
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_ex
ams/642-426.html
Test takers must then choose two additional exams based on
the product
they're specializing in. If that product is Cisco Unified
CallManager
4.1, then the track becomes:
- Cisco IP Telephony 4.1, Part 1; Cisco IP Telephony 4.1,
Part 2
(642-444)
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_ex
ams/642-444.html
- Implementing Cisco Voice Gateways and Gatekeepers
(642-453)
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_ex
ams/642-453.html
If the product is Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.0,
then the
track becomes:
- Cisco IP Telephony 6.0, Part 1 (642-446)
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_ex
ams/642-446.html
- Cisco IP Telephony 6.0, Part 2 (642-456)
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_ex
ams/642-456.html
More information on the planned updates can be found here:
http://newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2008/prod_031808.html
CIW DATABASE DESIGN SPECIALIST EXAM RELEASED
CIW has released the CIW v5 Database Design Specialist exam
(1D0-541)
as a replacement for its the earlier database exam
(1D0-441), and
also turned it into a standalone certification.
At 90 minutes in length, the exam costs $125 and consists of
50
questions. The topics and their weighing are as follows:
- Relational database fundamentals (36%)
- Structured query language (SQL) (20%)
- Normalization and database design (16%)
- Relational algebra and databases (10%)
- Transactions, currency control and database security
(10%)
- Relational database design and application (8%)

certification:

BOOK OF THE WEEK: 'INTERCONNECTING CISCO NETWORK DEVICES,
PART 2'
The third edition of one of the best CCNA books recently
published,
Steve McQuerry's "Interconnecting Cisco Network
Devices, Part 2"
a>) -- a follow-up to the first part which I
reviewed a couple of weeks ago (http://tinyurl.com/2fz8qq
a>) -- prepares
you for exam 640-816.
You can purchase this book by itself or -- if you want to
save some
money -- you can buy both parts 1 and 2 together in the
"CCNA
Preparation Library" (http://tinyurl.com/23kbut
a>).
Like its predecessor, "Part 2" is very
well-written and full of
enough tables and figures to make the material easy to
comprehend.
Each chapter ends with a summary and review questions (there
are a
total of 128 in the book). The eight chapters are:
- Review of Cisco IOS for Routers and Switches
- Medium-Sized Switched Network Construction
- Medium-Sized Routed Network Construction
- Single-Area OSPF Implementation
- Implementing EIGRP
- Managing Traffic with Access Control Lists
- Managing Address Spaces with NAT and IPv6
- Extending the Network into the WAN
Whether you're preparing for the exam or just looking for a
good
reference book on Cisco network devices, you'll find this
title to be
just what you're looking for.

3) ZUBAIR'S TIP O' THE WEEK: ERROR UPLOADING LARGE FILES IN
SHAREPOINT 2007
QUESTION:
Why are we having problems uploading large files in
SharePoint?
ANSWER:
Depending on the size of the files that you're trying to
upload,
there are several things that you can try.
First, make sure that SharePoint is configured properly for
the
maximum file size that will meet your needs. The default
maximum file
size for uploads in SharePoint is 50MB (with the absolute
maximum at
2GB or 2,047MB). Make sure to adjust that number according
to your
needs. Also, try to increase the paging file on the server
to at least
1GB and see if that helps.
If you're using URLscan on your server, you may have to
update
urlscan.ini to modify the value for
MaxAllowedContentLength.
You may also want to experiment with the value of
executionTimeout in
the web.config file. Try setting it to a higher number in
seconds,
like 3,600 or even higher.
Another thing you can do is to ensure that your browser is
properly
configured to accept large files. What you need to do is
configure
Internet Explorer to increase the Send buffer when
communicating
with Winsock. By making this change, you'll be increasing
network
performance for the HTTP File Upload method. Making this
change
requires a registry hack.
Microsoft IT reportedly limits their SharePoint file upload
size to
100MB. For some additional solutions and information on the
above-mentioned registry hack, check out this blog post:

*OSPF Processor IDs* (Cisco -- Real World Forum)
Jetter2 writes:
"I have three routers in a linear deployment, with
three areas.
Everything runs great...except when I change the process ID.
I wanted
to set the process ID of the Lab 3 router to some value
higher than
the other routers, to force it to win an election for the AR
in
area 0. I was under the impression (and any reading I can
dig out of
my old CCNA books) that the OSPF process ID is locally
unique, and
should hold no bearing on the way OSPF actually behaves.
I have all my routers running a process ID of 1. Just for
testing, I
changed the process ID of one of my edge routers just to see
what
would happen, and BAM, connectivity was gone. Even after
asking it to
show me any adjacencies, or ARs it should see, the router
appeared to
see nothing. I'm kind of at a loss here. I understand how to
make it
work, but I can't seem to figure out why if I do something
as simple
as change the process ID, it won't work. Below is an
example..."

*DHCP Problems* (Microsoft -- Real World Forum)
JAW0830 writes:
"I have a lab at home and everything has been running
fine up to this
point. Over the weekend, I purchased a second NIC for my
server so
that I could play with routing. It seemed simple enough. Now
my DHCP
server, that was working flawlessly, is not leasing IPs. It
shows the
johnserver.domain1.local with the IP address of the
Internet-facing
NIC and has the correct (private) scope beneath it. I go
into the
properties of the server and attempt to change the bindings,
but only
the private NIC is displayed. How do I correct this?
Also, my public NIC is registering itself in the domain so
that I
can't resolve the proper IP address to the server name. I
have gone
into the NIC's properties and have told it not to register
itself but
it didn't work. Any ideas would be very helpful as I had two
hours of
study last night accomplishing nothing."

*CCNP Lab Books* (CCNA/CCNP Forum)
mklaro writes:
"Looking to start working toward my CCNP. I'm curious
to see if anyone
has or knows where to get some good lab books for CCNP. I
would like
to be presented with some labs that I can do to get a more
hands-on
feel for some of the stuff. I have access to a decent amount
of
equipment but sometimes it's hard to think of different
scenarios to
setup and create."

*SQL Server 2008 Cert* (MCDBA Forum)
rstein6 writes:
"Fairly recently, Microsoft started testing/certifying
for SQL Server
2005, replacing MCDBA with MCITP -- SQL Server 2005. How
long would
you suspect be before they test/certify for SQL Server 2008
(as a
replacement perhaps) for SQL Server 2005?"
