Just built out a new cluster and would like to load test it
before putting
it into production. Aside from routing traffic through it
that tests the
rules & testing failover what else is advised? How about
some automated
testing tools to spool up connections and traffic... Any
recommendations?

The tools can either be linux or windows based.... does not
matter.

Thanks

Well, I use a tool named Blue's Port Tool that you can
download from here:

http://www.blue
bitter.de/porttst2.htm

Basically you put a machine on each side of the firewall,
run the tool on
each and define which would be the server and which the
client, as well as
the service you would be testing, if the "client"
can in fact connect to the
"server" a chat session gets open and both
machines can send and receive
text messages. It has some limitations, but comes really
handy in testing a
firewalls or something similar in a lab environment.
This runs on Windows.

Hope this helps.
