Thread: IP address order on Windows 2003 Server

IP address order on Windows 2003 Server
user name

Hi

I have an issue I haven't run across before. I am building a
new NGX R65
(with HFA-02 and hotfix) on W2K3 (with SP2) and my Gateway's
definition
(when I click on get address) returns the IP of one of the
other NICs
and not the one I defined the object as originally. This is
causing me
issues when I log in to the dashboard by server name rather
than by IP
address and in other areas

If I ping the gateway by name (from itself) it returns the
IP address I
want as I have added an entry in the hosts file

So how does it decide which IP address to return first? Is
there any
way to force which NIC it chooses as the default? Anything I
can find on
the net refers to NT4.0

cheers

Si

It's all on the one box *

I found an article in the support pages telling me to
cpstop add a
hosts file entry and cpstart - it made no difference.

[*this is a quick replacement for an existing R62 box that
keeps
blue-screening whenever you push a policy - I had intended
to change to
SPLAT given the time/resources to change - I don't have
them]

Setting up a splat box and importing the config should take
you less
than 20 minutes

If I had an extra box, if I could trust the current config
to not be the
reason for the blue screen, and if I was sure things didn't
work just
differently enough in splat world to trip a first-timer up
long enough
to be a pain.
