I would recommend looking at the old style (the readable)
config and 
compare it to a the new style (not very readable) you will
begin to 
notice how the nesting works.  All the commands are the same
that you 
will find in the documentation on the Cherokee website.  I
do remember 
Alvaro talking about building a script to do the conversion,
but I 
haven't heard of any updates on that.  There will be a tool
to aide in 
the configuration of Cherokee.
