cherrypy download - "not in gzip format"

Hi - About 24 hours ago I download CherryPy-2.1.1.tar.gz
from but when
i try to ...

localhost instalfile # tar xvfz CherryPy-2.1.1.tar.gz

... I get ...

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

... I appreciate this is something i'm doing wrong. i'm
using gentoo
with a bash shell. I'm not very experienced using tar. Is
there
something obvious I'm doing wrong here ?

BTW the file looks like this ...

localhost instalfile # dir -l
total 32
-rw-r--r--  1 auser users 13417 Feb 22 02:00
CherryPy-2.1.1.tar.gz

... and i downloaded it using wget.

OK it's embarassing admission time 

The link i was using WGET to fetch was in fact the 'select
mirror' page
- once I used lynx and did it interactively all was clear.
