I have had similar problems with lighttpd, fastcgi and
python. I was
mostly interested in testing the performance of this system.

Anyway, I don't really think one gains a lot by going
fastcgi with
CherryPy. CherryPy has a very fast application server that
can handle
loads of requests. If performance really becomes an issue
you can
create multiple CherryPy servers (with a load balancer
in-front).

The only thing one gains by doing this is headache by
getting this
setup up and running...
Btw. it's "cool" that lightpd's configuration
system has a semi-lisp
syntax (sigh). They have taken the worst from Lisp (i.e.
Lisp's nice
('syntax)) and used it in their configuration system.
