How to use gzipfilter?

I've added the following line to my config dict passed to
cherrypy.config.update.:

'gzipfilter.on':True,

Is this the correct way to enable compression for all pages
being
served by the server? How do I know if the compression is
actually
happening?

    yes thats how I do it anyways,

and actually i think the compression only affects text/html content
looks like some browsers don't like their images compressed or some such odd behavior

i'd tag on a question of my own to this thread,

can I enable compression for other content-types? the docs are a little sketchy, or am i
completely off the track?
