You don't say what library you're using to interface ot
Postgres.

I suppose you've tried ...

objConn.ping()

 (works for MySQLdb ... ?

Not sure what you're planning to do with ping when you've
got it but if
you're planning on just calling it in a loop to keep the db
awake you
could just cron something to hit a (session aware) URL ?
Would come to
the same thing and avoid having to find the db ping. Just a
thought.

i'm using psycopg2

is there some sort of internal cron in cherrypy that can be
used for
this?

its typical in most frameworks to support a persistant db
connection by
repeatedly pinging the db every 3minutes or so, so the
connection stays
active and doesn't time out.

i figured cherrypy would handle this automagically
