Hi Ray,
Yes, with the caliber of Java developers we have, this is
very
true. I think finding someone to present on Rails is not a
problem. It
is just a matter of scheduling.
We already have a presentation scheduled on June 20.
However,
let's try to fit a Rails presentation in the next few
months.
Peter

If we can get someone to present on Rails that would be
fantastic. There
are plenty of capable Java guys in this group, the contrast
and
comparison could be a discussion for afterwards. I'd
imagine there are a
few Java folks around here that have been looking into Ruby
and Rails
that could lend to the conversation.
RailsConf is coming up here in Chicago June 22-25. So there
will be a
bunch of Rails junkies in town soon.

Hi John,
Thanks for expressing your interest for the topic.
For now, we have elections going on and presentations
lined for the
next few months. However, depending on Rob (the
presenter)'s
availability, we will try to reschedule the event. If Rob
can't make it,
I also talked to Marcel Molina, a Rails committer, who also
said that he
would be willing to present on Rails (though he is not a
Java
programmer, so he may not be able to do any compare-contrast
for us).
Since so many things are happening, if you don't hear
anything in a
few months, please do send us another reminder.
Thanks,
Peter

Is this meeting going to be rescheduled? It is a very
interesting topic.

SUMMARY:
Ruby on Rails is the latest web framework that is
taking the development community by storm. It combines
the power and expressiveness of Ruby with a full
stack, MVC based framework aimed at making the typical
database-backed web application easy. It uses
convention over configuration (no XML!) and was
created to keep the developer happy instead of the
compiler or vendors.
In this presentation we'll take a whirlwind tour of
Ruby before doing a quick demo app in Rails. We'll
talk about why you should care about Rails, what its
_not_ good at right now, and what Java developers can
learn from Rails and start applying today.
SPEAKER BIO:
Rob Sanheim is a software developer with over six
years development experience and over ten years of IT
