Kai-Uwe,
What's our status of these translations? Can you help
answer the
questions below?
Thank you,
Robin
CinePaint.org
--- forwarded message ---
I have just visited the CinePaint site for the first time,
and
decided to try to download it. I had a bit of trouble
reading/understanding things though, because a lot is
obviously
written with people having a lot more knowledge than what I
have in
mind... Hope I can manage to install and use it though, time
will
tell.
But, anyway, during the process, I saw some notes somewhere
about
translations to different languages being done. That made me
wonder,
do you have to have a lot of knowledge about programming and
such in
order to be able to translate such software? I really don't
know what
is involved in translating such things, not at all.
All I know is that in not too long (a few months), I will be
getting
more time on my hands than now, and if it is something I
could
manage, maybe I could give a hand in translating to
Norwegian. That
could be useful not only for Norwegians, but also for Danish
and
Swedish people. These 3 languages are quite similar, and I
e.g. have
no problems reading either Swedish or Danish even if
Norwegian is my
language. But of course, it would only be possible if I
wouldn't get
too much problems doing the actual translation.
It would be nice to know though, beforehand, approx. how
much work
doing such a translation would be. E.g., how many pages of
text would
be involved?
Sorry if this shouldn't have been directed to you. It is of
course
not urgent at all. I just did not know where else to ask,
and would
appreciate not having to join a list only to ask this one
question.
Thanks!

Here is the Wiki link:
http://cinepaint.bigasterisk.com/InternationalisationI1
8n
When you, a translator, download the source package, you
will find a file
no.po in both the po/ and po-plug-ins/ directories. The
above link or the
possibly more actual README file in po/ should give you
advice how to
translate.
Your engagement may vary. Anyway if you translate a sting
and
submit your changed po file to the patches site or to me
personally it
will help others using CinePaint.
Your contribution is welcome.
