Subject: DCI = 12 bit/AES/JPEG2000/XYZ/gamma images in a MXF
wrapper

It would be terrific if we could feed cineon log image files
to CinePaint and generate 12 bit 2K or 4K DCI compliant data
streams.

We would need MXF wrapper code, AES encryption/decryption,
JPEG2000 compression/decompression, R'G'B' to X'Y'Z'
color space conversion, and gamma 2.6 processing.

We already have cineon image file support.

MXF code exists in several open source depositories.

I have been told 2K jasper JPEG2000 JPC DCI compliant frames
can be build using JASPER but that 4K JASPER JPEG2000 JPC
data needs to be shuffled to make 4K DCI frames. The
shuffling is described in the DCI spec.

OpenJPEG is another open source for JPEG2000 code.

R'G'B' to X'Y'Z' is dead simple: a 3 x 3 matrix
transform.

Is anyone interested in working on these activities?

Sounds interesting, though the task is not fully clear to
me. My two
initial questions are:

Are you speaking about Glasgow or about the Gtk-Cinepaint?

Is planned to generate a DCI compliant data stream of a
single image,
or much more of a sequence of images (-> CinePaint's
frame manager?)
to produce something like what is called in the DCI
specification a
"reel"? My point is, what is the special part of
the retouching
program CinePaint herein, why not simply a console program
to convert
cineon files into a DCI compliant data stream?

Best Regards
Hartmut
