Hello,

I obtained a question about Robins "First Internet
digital film
library debuts" article:
http://enterta
inment.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/11/07/1743232&tid
=24&tid=5&tid=31

The person, who contacted me, want to repair b/w photos. He
is bcc'ed.

In the article Robin describe plug-ins for CinePaint
providing Inpaint and
RBF film/photo retoushing capabilities and mentioned some
code provided by
Harf Zatschler and Bernard de Cuyper for CinePaint.

I am afraid the whole thing sleeped away a bit, anyway:
Has someone working code or patches?

best regards

Kai-Uwe,

There were three different potential code sources for
inpainting, none
of which went forward. The RBF code is reportedly simple yet
compute
intensive. It calculates the derivative in all directions
from a hole
and then fills it in. The Cuyper inpainting code was
Pentium-only and
hard to understand. The Harvard texture synthesis code was
the most
sophisticated in what it could achieve judging from
published examples.

It was all very interesting, and a volunteer made an effort
with the
Cuyper code, but there was no real progress.
