My friend, netcat is your friend it's the TCP/IP swiss army
knife.
On the server you might do a "netcat -l 25 "
(which will cause netcat to
listen on port 25) Then on the client you can use netcat
again to connect or
due a simple telnet server-ip 25.

version there was one way back when but I strictly use it on
linux since
linux is so much better .
