Thread: Multicast on ethernet and FR

Multicast on ethernet and FR

The problem I have been running into is

I have R1, R2 and R3 running on an ethernet segment and R3,
R4 and R5
running over FR (multipoint main interface) and all
connected interface are
running spare-mode with autorp listener turned on. R3 is the
RP and R1 is
the mapping agent, and all routers are able to get the
correct RP address
through Auto-RP.

When I input igmp join group on one of the R4 interfaces,
suprisingly R4
and R3 dont create the (*, G) state until I ping the group
address on the
R3. The major problem is I am able to ping the group address
from R3 , but
not able to ping the group address from R1 or R2.

PS: When I tried to ping the group address from R1/R2, the
OIL on the
multicast state (R2, G) on R3(RP)is empty. I guess this is
the reason why I
am not ping to the group address configured on R4.

HOWEVER, although I am able to ping the group address
from the R3(RP),
the OIL on the multicast state (R3, G) is empty as well.

Is there anyone can help me to understand what is going on
?
Many thanks in advance.
