It's worth pointing out that if portfast is enabled on a L2
port that is
subsequently configured as a trunk point, by default
portfast will be
automatically turned off. Portfast can be forced on a trunk
port by issuing
the command 'spanning-tree portfast trunk'. There are some
instances where
it can be useful to have portfast on a trunk interface, for
example when
connecting to a VMware ESX host, but it should only be
really used when the
benefits (and consequences of a misconfiguration) are well
understood.
