"Too many open files" problem is fixed

Can someone remind me what the "too many open
files" problem is? I'm
trying to figure out if this is similar to a problem we've
had, thought
was fixed, and is now back. I don't think it is but wanted
to check.

Back in November I posted here and filed a support incident
related to
problems with "too many records" in a custom
element. The response I
received then from support was basically this...

> It appears this error is a Known Macromedia Issue. I
see you are running MX 6.1 Updater 1 so have you
> installed all of the latest Hot Fixes from Macromedia?
>
> Product Area:
> Large ColdFusion pages
>
> Issue:
> ColdFusion pages that are larger than 500 KB can cause
the following compilation error:
> java.lang.IllegalStateException: unexpected constant at

coldfusion.compiler.ClassReader.readCpool(ClassReader.java:1
53)
>
> [http://www.macromedia.co
m/support/coldfusion/releasenotes/mx/knownissues_mx_j2ee_p2.
html]

Support didn't have a chance to look at it until February
and then
basically said this problem doesn't seem to occur in newer
versions of
CommonSpot. This install was running an early version of 4
at the time.

It's since been upgraded to the most current version
available - 4.6 SP1
- and we've just had the same problem occur again.

I don't think this is the same issue as "too many
open files" though. Is it?

Thanks.

"Too many open files" problem is fixed

Ted,

It's a different issue. Here are some notes on it:

http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=418
9011

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index
.cfm?id=f7c4e460

By the way, we back out 1.5 last night and went back to
1.4.02. 1.5
introduced the "500 null" error and templates
weren't completing all of the
way. I didn't want that to lead to corruption of the
database so we went
back to 1.4.

Now we once again have the "too many open files"
problem but we will keep
working on solving that.

Dave
