My top X reasons..

1) AOL isn't an Internet connection. You connect to AOL and THEN to the
Internet
everything flows though AOL so therefor your speed will be slower then a
straight
connection
OH...well, I connect to the internet and THEN to aol, but I use RR and keep
AOL for chat purposes for friends that I've made there.

2) AOL is expensive compared to other ISP's
I don't pay full price. I BYOA so it's less than $10 a month

3) AOL is filtered, so you can't surf to some sites
Don't use AOL's browser. I use FIREFOX

4) AOL takes over your computer and networking embedding itself darn near
every where
Can't speak to that because I'm computer illiterate, so to speak.

5) AOL is a system resource and memory hog.
No problems here, always have plenty.

6) AOL using some proprietary file formats (like the ART file)

7) AOL has issues with HTML Emails at times.

8) AOL is 'frowned' upon due to the ease of use and bundled software.
Which tends to turning surfers into people
that don't understand the Internet (Slag term of 'AOLer' is used to
classify someone that
doesn't know their butt from a C-prompt)
That would be ME! Clueless

9) AOL is known to sell Email addresses (at least was known)
EEK! Well, rarely do I get spam on AOL, I have more spam sent to my yahoo
address than my AOL address.

10) It's about as useful as JPG's to Helen Keller.
HA HA HA

Well, I do thank you for enlightening me. It does help. Thanks!

Laurie

You do know that you can use AIM, AOL Email, and most of AOL's other
services without haveing a Paying account? If all you are using AOL for is
AIM.. Why spend the extra money?

as for #4.. trust me.. it does.. LOL It's almost as bad as spyware when you
go to Uninstall.. though, I believe Norton is worse.
