You do NOT have to turn on WGA to keep getting Windows update.
In fact, the next time the update icon appears on your taskbar
(assuming you have your updates set to notify, NOT automatic) click on
the icon to see what the updates are. If WGA reappears as one of
them untick the box next to WGA then click close. A new box will open
asking if you you want to ignore this update - tick the box and then
OK. The window closes and you won't be bothered again with this update.
When you next update, as well as getting the list of High-Priority
Updates, you will also see
"IMPORTANT You've hidden important updates
You've asked us not to show you one or more high-priority updates but
your computer might be at risk until they are installed. Restore them now"
This has been generated by previously giving the instruction to ignore
the WGA update.
