Linux is very intereting these days and i was wondering what was the
best to install,Ubuntu or Freespire, and what advantages one had over
the other.
Freespire seems to be more user friendly with its CNR program
installer, but then again, i dont know zip about either distro

AJ
Being a distrubiter of both I will give you my thoughts.
Linspire/Freespire is worse the Windows ME. It crashed just like
clockwork, (keep in mind folks I have to test these OS's to the hilt)
Multitasking of more the 3 apps will cause Linspire/Freespire to run
slow then crash. TheCNR feature is not all that it is cracked up to be.
Also Linspire/Freespire runs full time in root w/o a password to do
anything, can you say worst protection then Windows.

Ubuntu. Easy to install, prompts for password to do system changes. And
software is easy to install. Just put the install disk in. Cancle the
advanced installer when it starts then goto Applications on the task bar
then down to Add/Remove then you put a check mark in both boxes to show
all packages.
Then sit back and scroll through the list of thousands of packages, pick
the ones you want by placing a check mark in the box, the click apply.
However install packeage from the Office category by themselves w/o
choosing from any other area, one package in that area conflicts with
everything and I have still yet to find the bug.
But Ubuntu is just easy, nice and...well it's the human thing to do.

Ubuntu is one of the friendliest Linux distros available. I don't know
jack about Freespire.

Hi Chaders,

Seams to be a little confusion here. I'm a Lindows Insider and I ran a
Lindows Beta for 2.5 years without a crash or reboot. It was Lindows then,
but after Microsoft sued Lindows for infringement of Windows, Lindows was
changed to Linspire. For the last 6 months I've been running a Freespire beta
and while I was gone for a few weeks, all my windows computers left running
were crashed and the only computer that was still running, collecting all my
mail, was the Freespire Beta. FYI, Linspire, Freespire & Ubuntu are very much
related, sharing technologies with each other for the benefit of their users.
Ubuntu is geared towards commercial users, while Linspire & Freespire are
geared towards the home users. Ubuntu is controlled by Mark Shuttleworth, who
pays many engineers that work on Ubuntu. Linspire invested $35+ million into
Freespire and Linspire. Linspire is headed by Kevin Carmony. Freespire is
the development platform for Linspire. Linspire's main revenue is from the
CNR (Click'N Run) Warehouse. CNR Warehouse is available to
Linspire/Freespire users. CNR Warehouse will be incorporated in future
versions of Ubuntu. I heard via the grapevine that Kevin was instrumental
with Dell going with Ubuntu. That still has me puzzled.
