it is formatted in NTFS.

Apparently not, I could not even get the CD to run in my home machine, although it worked perfectly in my work machine.

I will try it on a couple of other computers over the weekend, I should have a spare hard drive lying around or I could create a FAT32 partition on an existing one.

Does this mean that Ubuntu (or any other flavour of Linux) cannot read & write to a NTFS-formatted disk? Not a big problem, just wondering.

Some flavors of Linux can read NTFS with mixed reliability, but no Linux
that I'm aware of will write to NTFS.

Eric
Linux-Ubuntu can READ NTFS and Read and Write FAT32.
There is a Bata package to Write to NTFS. One hidden reason behind NTFS
was to prevent Linux from using it. Linux cannot "INSTALL" to any flavor
of FAT32 or NTFS. It sees FAT32 as a partition to delete and install on.
It will resize an NTFS partition, or Delete it. I do not understand the
Install part. Ubuntu and Linux must format the drive, say in ext3.
