I pulled out a recovery cd for my old computer - the cd hasn't been
touched since the computer was new, and is in a plastic wallet with a
printed insert. The printed insert had stuck to the cd and the
printing has stuck to the data side of the cd. Does anyone know how
to safely get this off? TIA

A little petroleum based solvent like WD-40 usually works on this.

This is going to sound crazy, but bear with me. A friend of mine
heard that you could fix a scratched CD with a marker and so she
colored in all the scratches and tried to play it. Well, it didn't
work, actually made it skip even worse, then later her son took the CD
and cleaned off all the ink with nail polish remover and it worked
just fine.
If all else fails, I'd give it a try.

Well, first thing I'd try is a couple hours soaking in a shallow bath of
water. If humidity was enough to make it sticky, water ought to be enough
to loosen it. Water ought not damage the cd, either.

Worth a try, but no guarantees, naturally. Who does guarantees anymore?
