Hi,
My husbands pc is coming up "disk read error" and will not start even with
the Windows disk. Is that the hard drive or another problem? Is there an
easy way to find out aside from bringing it into a pc shop - not sure we can
afford that and I am sure that it is not worth the cost for that pc.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. thanks,
Debbie

Thanks Teresa,
We already thought of that. (the pc is about 5 years old) But the floppy
drive always makes a strange sound when the pc is starting)

He is in the process of reinstalling Windows now, no patience. So I guess
we'll see if that works. But I did have him disconnect the floppy drive, in
case that is the problem.

Hi guys, a week ago I asked for help in ridding this virus and I tried what was kindly advised but I can't get rid of the flipping thing. AVG finds it, says I need to re-boot to finish the healing process and lo and behold I have the thing again. I now have Trojan Horse Generic2.MSS. I have used NoAdware, Adware Away, Lavasoft Pro, CC Cleaner and a few others I have deleted and forgotten about. I am about to rip my hair out..........Shez

Did you turn off system restore before you cleaned?

Hi,
My husband was able to get Windows back on his pc and it is running again --
but whenever he tries to restart it (not turn it on) he still receives the
"disk read error" then it says to press Ctrl Alt Del, but that does not work
so he has to press the power off and then back on.
Could this be a hard disk problem or motherboard? Any ideas?
Thanks, Debbie

Yes, tried turning off System Restore. I have finally found a prog called PC Tools Spyware Doctor which is the first to actually detect and name the adware apart from AVG. I am tossing around if I should buy the prog or if it is unable to delete it like AVG is. My AVG is a professional version...........Shez
