Hi Folks

It seems as though a lot of people are having networking problems and I am
no different. This has been an issue for quite some time. It isn't a major
concern, but I want to solve it. With all of the networking issues
surfacing; I decided to try to fix mine.

My problem is this:
I have a wireless network with three Windows XP computers and one Vista
computer.

I am only concerned with one of the Windows XP computers, my Fujitsu
notebook and my Vista notebook.

The Vista computer can see the Fujitsu and the Fujitsu can see the Vista
computer. The Fujitsu can log onto the Vista computer. The Vista computer
cannot log onto the Fujitsu. The only message I get when trying to logon to
the Fujitsu, is
";Logon unsuccessful: Windows is unable to log you on. Be sure that your user
name and password are correct."

I thought maybe it was the firewall on the Fujitsu, but the firewall is
configured correct. I even tried with the firewall disabled, still no go.

To keep things simpler, the user name and password is the same for both
computers. In the event this could be the problem, I changed it on the
Fujitsu to no avail.

I have a workaround which is a temporary solution, but I would like to fix
it. I transfer files from the Fujitsu to the Vista by accessing the public
folder in Vista, then copy and paste the Fujitsu file into Vista's public
folder. Of course there is always the USB flash drive, but I want to be able
to log onto the Fujitsu!

FYI, I can see all three Windows XP computers and also my printer, connected
with a print server.

(I solved the bigger problem of not being able to print Office docs from the
Vista computer by deleting and reinstalling the printer. That was a concern,
but all fixed now!)

Try this hotfix from Microsoft.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906524/en-us
Found KB search string logon from vista.
I remember that there is different valid criteria for Win 98 and XP for
computer names and device names. May have the same type of issue between
Vista and XP but I have not found it yet.
Hope this helps.

Hello Martha,

My first thought on is that when going to log in you may need to pass the computer name that you are logging into in front of the username. For example you may need to pass Fujitsuusername (subsituting thet actual computer name if it is not Fujitsu) when logging in. This is common among Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Servers when there is not an active directory environment to serve as a centralized login controller or when logging into the computers themselves.

Thanks!

Question of ethics
country flaguser name

A Lady brought her little Sony Laptop in because it is "getting slow",
so she wanted it checked for viruses etc. It has one of those finger
print log in devices, so before she left it I made sure she removed the
login password, which she used the finger print for so I can get into
the operating system without having to make my own account etc etc. In
the course of removing it, she was telling me a little bit about how her
husband was really suspicious of her, and she was trying to keep him out
of her business without making a big deal out of it, but somehow he was
still able to log on and read her email etc etc.

Well I just started cleaning it up and guess what??? There is a
keyolgger installed in the unit. I was just going to remove it and not
say anything, but now I am not sure what the proper thing to do is. In
my opinion, any husband who resorts to this should be strung up by his
balls, or at the very least get some serious consoling, but if I tell
the lady what is going on, I am sure it will trigger some
confrontation. She actually seemed pretty blase' about his paranoia,
but I know this type of insecurity can be dangerous.

Any discussion of this will be welcome.
