Hey!
This is certainly off topic but I need some direction from all you "pros" who use eBay regularly...
I am looking at a certain item and in it, the seller clearly states, "contact us before bidding or I will cancel your bids!" Well, I have emailed him directly and through eBay and I've not heard from him! I have several questions that I have asked about the item (it's a big ticket item so I won't bid on it until I get my questions answered anyway) and he hasn't replied once! There is one more day on this item, there is no reserve and it is an AWESOME price, if legitimate..
How do I get this dude to answer my questions and respond to me? Do I email eBay directly? How do I do that?
He's going to lose a sell and I am going to lose a GREAT DEAL on something I desperately NEED!
Please help if you can, and I thank you.
Cindy

Email him again and say that you will not honor your bid if he cannot
contact you BEFORE the biiding ends.

My "this looks very suspicious" radar has gone up. A legitimate seller
will, as you say, not want to miss a sale and will respond promptly to
questions. If I were you, I'd be cautious of this listing. You may
well find that you'll be offered the "chance" to buy off-Ebay - if so,
don't.

I would see this as a red flag and move on. You know the saying about

This is a VERY popular scam. I trade on E-Bay quite a bit, including the
sellers end and I had I a close friend who was almost scammed. I promise, if
it is THAT good a deal it would not be there. T.V's, Stereo Equipment,
Computers, Cars, Game Systems are some of the popular items they scam, not
to mention big ticket designer clothing and handbags. (Sometimes not a off
E-Bay scam but a fake!). One of the biggest tip offs is the "Contact before
bidding" stuff. They want to contact you to say something like, "Oh I really
need the $$", or "lets avoid E-bay fee's" or some story like that.
Let E-Bay know of the auction, and under ANY circumstances DO NOT send ANY
$$ especially not though Western Union or Money Gram! And if they have a
relatively new ID, look at their feedback, was it for small, non relevant
items or buying only?
Sorry to be so preachy but a friend almost lost $4K on a Corvette.

Snip....
Have you checked your My Ebay? Alot of times sellers send it to
there or their email gets blocked by your isp. One thing for sure, if
you do not get a response; don't bid on it. Good luck,

You don't say how new to Ebay you are - some sellers will flatly
refuse to deal with people with less than 10 feedback or who have the
'been a member for less than 30 days' icon at the side of their name
And 'awesome' prices are only awesome after the auction has ended -
unless there's a 'buy now' price on it? I've seen many an item going
for what looks like a silly price, but then the real bidding starts
with minutes or even seconds to go.
The majority of items on Ebay are won in the last minute.
I was watching a quad processor server for instance recently, it was
going for loose change practically until the last minute - it sold for
£375 in the end, which was still a bargain, but not the mega bargain
it looked like at first.
Having said all that, this 'must contact the seller' is most unusual
and suspicious looking

Everything I've seen on Ebay, I can get cheaper at the store, with out
all the extra charges. People on Ebay seem to me, have gone insane
with the pricing of items.

OK. First, thanks for everyone who responded.
Whether the seller had responded to me or not, I was NOT going to bid on this item until I got my questions answered. I believe in the "your word is your bond" thing and I wasn't about to bid and possibly "win" this item and be expected to pay, on the obscure chance that this seller was on the up and up. Turns out, I got an email from this person this morning and, once I get CHAD's moderator's OK, I'll post it here, just for a good laugh. My "it's too good to be true" radar was right on target...
I am so glad I have good instincts and am not so desperate for this item that I let good common sense float away in the wind.
NOW, I would like to know how I can forward this on to the PTB at eBay. I am, as we speak, researching that. I hope they don't bust me from participating on eBay in the future---I had no intention of breeching their business of making money. Just using all avenues to find out what I could about this item before bidding.
Again, thanks for all your opinions.
Cindy

Howard,
I didn't want to bid on it and bump the price up if they weren't going to be any more attentive to their auction than that.. Turns out, Howard, it was a big ol' SCAM!!! Those tail-holes got me all hopeful I was going to find a replacement for my horse trailer that I had to sell a couple of years ago. It was definitely too good to be true...
Then, on the flip side, I emailed another seller about a couple of photos of her trailer that was blurry. I asked for two little photos, and bless her heart, she sent me 35 photos, big files, of every square inch of her trailer. I just had to laugh, but did email her and told her how some folks wouldn't be so happy to get those if they had dial-up. She just did the best she knew how...
It takes all kinds...
Cindy
