You forgot to mention how to get into recovery console too
It's usually accessed via the XP CD, by booting from it
Wait till you see this......
# To setup Windows XP now, press Enter.
# To Repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
# To quit setup without installing XP, press F3.
An alternative method is to use to a Windows 98/ME boot floppy
and boot from that instead - assuming you have a floppy that is.
You can get a boot floppy from here, if you don't have one

Let it boot, then type
fdisk/mbr
... and press return
Remove the floppy and press CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot
There's no space in the fixboot command btw
